solidarity
noun [ U ]
Unity and mutual support among individuals or groups based on shared interests, goals, or sympathies. It involves standing together to advocate for collective well-being, social justice, and mutual aid. A bond that unites people together turning passive sympathy into active support.
This September the Young Workers Centre are celebrating young people's talents, achievements, ideas and contributions to the world. With cameras now in our pockets, photography has become one of the most democratic art forms for young people. This exhibition recognises young people not just as artists, but contributors to broader social conversations, and we want to demonstrate the depth of empathy, acts of service, and connection to their communities, friends, and family we see on a daily basis.
What does Solidarity mean to you?
To us, solidarity represents mutual care, collective resilience, and everyday acts of support that bind communities together. We invite photographers to document these moments: friends lifting each other up, communities coming together in difficult times, family or chosen family providing connection. Be the story tellers of your own lived experience.
This exhibition is apart of Victoria's Youth Fest and such is limited to people aged 30 and under and living in Victoria.
The young workers centre is committed to accessibility - we invite artists of all experience and skill levels to share their work with us, it is free to submit and to participate if selected. We will handle the printing and at the conclusion of the exhibition dates we will post your work back to you.
