Wins for apprentices!

Here at the Young Workers Centre, apprentices and young workers have been fighting hard to win safe and fair apprenticeships. We have already won a taskforce and commitments to changes from the Allan Labor Government. We have more wins to announce, with the Federal Minister for Skills and Training, Andrew Giles, meeting with VTHC Assistant Secretary  Amanda Threlfall,  the Young Workers Centre and apprentices at Victorian Trades Hall about improving apprentice safety! Watch us on 7news!

Minister Giles announced the Albanese Labor Government is committed to stamp out bullying of apprentices and keep them safe on the job, as well as provide $10,000 payments to apprentices building homes and in the clean energy sector to help support them to finish their apprenticeships. This along with making free Tafe permanent, has made a positive impact on making sure Australian tradies can get the skills and training needed to build our future. Read the announcement here.

These announcements are in response to the Strategic Review of the Australian Apprenticeship Incentive System, which investigated whether the incentive system is helping the take up and completion of apprenticeships and traineeships, the effect that cost-of-living pressures is having on apprentices and trainees and how to best support high quality apprenticeships and traineeships. The Young Workers Centre, Victorian Trades Hall Council, unions and apprentices participated in the review.  We are excited to see what else will come from this review!
