Darby joined us for his work experience - read about his three days with the Young Workers Centre!

My first introduction to Young Workers Centre (YWC), and the Trades Hall overall, was surprisingly a month before my work experience placement, at the YWC conference. I had sat down into the chairs placed in Solidarity Hall and introduced myself to some of the people around, and on that day I found myself running into a huge help to my experience at the YWC in October, Felicity! The best guide I had, and a major help, who told me the ins and outs of the place overall! Then, later during my first day of work experience in October, I met most of the amazing team at YWC, namely Katie, Shannon, Nina, Angus, Siane and Lyndon. Everyone was incredibly friendly and sociable, taking the time to help me out, making the entire three days I spent at Trades Hall a blast!

On the first day, I spent my time attending various meetings and discussions that were occurring, including a team meeting, Trades Hall staff meeting (where every member of the building’s staff attended!) and an outreach meeting. The team meeting was in the morning, going over everyone’s highlights/challenges of the week before everyone headed up for the Trades Hall staff meeting, which was especially cool as Australian Super made a presentation on superannuation that they showed, before finally, me and the other members of the YWC from the office area where I was situated, had the outreach meeting which was a lot of planning and discussion! 

Then, on the second day, I settled back into the office area and met the rest of the team, before preparing to go watch a tour given to a school group by Olivia and Shannon, which was incredibly insightful, and then later on, I myself was given a tour of the workers museum by Lyndon, which was also fascinating! 

Lastly, on the third day I started watching a junior-wages presentation, before attending a meeting and lastly, writing up some brainstorms and this blog! My experience at the Young Workers' Centre was amazing, and I have a huge amount of gratitude for the people that made it so much fun. Thank you Nina, Olivia, Shannon, Siane, Lyndon, Angus, Katie and Felicity, you were all an amazing help to me and made my entire experience at YWC one of the greatest times ever!!!!
