COVID-19: Your Rights As a Gig Economy Worker

Q. What rights do I have as a gig economy worker?

A. Gig economy workers are not covered by the National Employment Standards, the award system and they can’t collectively bargain – they don’t have leave entitlements.

However, gig economy workers are still covered by health and safety laws and the platforms have a duty of care and must put in place measures to reduce the risk to workers.

The platforms can and should commit to paying workers and the government to commit to special paid leave.
